Our receptionist is usually the one who ends up having to reschedule meetings, at the CEO's request.
She says it's embarrasssing and some clients get annoyed, although many of the established clients know that this is how it appears to work. She is not happy with this situation as she feels that it is not professional, and also gives her considerable work in finding another available meeting time for the CEO, staff (where necessary) and the clients.
She has tried to schedule meetings later in the day, as the CEO prefers to work in the morning before coming into the office, however she says that all that happens is that he gets involved with the work and runs late for the meeting, even though it is later in the day!
She is frustrated (and who can blame her?).
I suggested the "pushback" technique - and she is thinking of giving it a try.
