Business, Branson, Education

Was speaking with a friend who is now a classroom high school teacher, but formerly was involved in marketing and business. His opinion, after working in the Catholic school system where there were problems in trying to create a school culture - "something that sets us apart", was that a leader must be a visionary and surround themselves with an empowered team responsible for putting those visions in place. And that to achieve that, a leader must think outside the square. His case in point was that Catholic school leadership looked only within the Catholic system, not the other private and public educational systems. This, he felt, perpetuated the problems encountered. Closed systems often need an infusion of new ideas.

He suggested that Richard Branson was a prime example - a visionary who has the great ideas but also has a team that looks after bringing those ideas to fruition. Branson also keeps his visions simple, without jargon - for example, space flight. He leaves it to those teams to develop the idea.

Friend's comment was that although there seems to be a divide between educational institutions and business that a business leader is an educator - they have to sell their ideas and visions.

Will look up information on Branson.
